Cyber resilience in global dialogue: The NCSC at the WEF Annual Meeting 2026
Bern, 16.01.2026 — This year, with Florian Schütz participating in the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is using this international platform to further engage with political, economic, and expert stakeholders on critical cybersecurity matters. To this end, the NCSC is organising a specialist event at the WEF Annual Meeting focusing on geopolitical developments, leadership roles in key technologies, and digital sovereignty. As in previous years, the NCSC is also supporting the WEF organisation in protecting cyberspace.
Cybersecurity remains a key topic at this year's WEF Annual Meeting. For this reason, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), together with digitalswitzerland, will be hosting a high‑level expert event at the Annual Meeting on the topic ‘Geopolitics for tech supremacy: Policy, practice and partners in a fragmented world.’ The event will take place at the House of Switzerland and bring together around 80 representatives from politics, public administration, business and expert communities.
The event focuses on current geopolitical tensions, international competition for technological leadership, and the increasing challenges associated with digital sovereignty. In an increasingly fragmented world order, the establishment of sanctions regimes, special financial surcharges for key technologies and resources, and regulatory approaches based in part on purely regional security and socio-political interests are hindering the further development of a cyber ecosystem that is as free, trustworthy, interoperable and economical as possible. For small, open economies such as Switzerland, this trend leads primarily to higher costs for businesses and industry, as well as growing limitations in terms of technological choices as digitalisation progresses. The event will therefore address how to reduce technological dependencies, strengthen resilience, and advance international partnerships strategically, in order to find effective counter-strategies to current geopolitical developments.
The programme includes keynote contributions from government and industry representatives, a high-level panel discussion and interactive discussion rounds. The event provides a platform to strengthen dialogue between government, industry and other relevant stakeholders and to develop shared perspectives on the security, economic and societal challenges of digital transformation.
In addition to the specialist event, Florian Schütz, Director of the NCSC, will participate in other Annual Meeting side events and hold bilateral talks with cybersecurity sector representatives.
As in previous years, the NCSC is supporting the WEF Annual Meeting organisers in protecting cyberspace, particularly by assisting critical infrastructure operators in defending themselves against cyberthreats. The NCSC conducts analyses and exchanges information on the cybersituation with international partner organisations. By doing so, the NCSC is making an important contribution to strengthening Switzerland’s national cyber resilience.
