Obtaining an upper-secondary level qualification is highly dependent on a young person's socio-economic situation
Neuchâtel, 20.3.2025 - Of the young people who turned 15 between 2011 and 2013, 8.2% had not obtained an upper-secondary level qualification ten years later. Among young people from the 20% of households with the lowest net equivalent income from employment, this figure rose to 13% and among those from households claiming economic social assistance to 24%. It is much more common for individuals from these households to obtain a federal vocational qualification than a Swiss baccalaureate. The probability of obtaining a qualification is also influenced by a number of other interrelated socio-economic factors. These are the main findings of a new publication by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) based on longitudinal analyses of nearly 82,000 young people.
