Switzerland named Co-Chair of Education Cannot Wait Executive Committee
Switzerland has been appointed Co-Chair of Education Cannot Wait’s (ECW) Executive Committee for two years, succeeding Norway and joining Germany. The move reinforces its commitment to education in emergencies and protracted crises.
With 234 million crisis-affected children in the world now needing education support, Switzerland will emphasize local leadership, empowering ministries, communities, teachers, and children to shape education responses. It will work to keep funding for education in emergencies at the top of the international agenda, while promoting humanitarian-development-peace approaches and innovative financing approaches.
Switzerland brings experience in vocational skills in emergencies, linking learning to livelihoods in fragile contexts. It also co-hosted ECW’s 2023 High-Level Financing Conference in Geneva, which secured USD 826 million in pledges, and supported the establishment of the Geneva Global Hub for Education in Emergencies in 2019.
