Inclusive education system and quality education for all
SDC seeks to drive systemic changes by contributing to effective, inclusive and equitable education systems and by enabling relevant quality learning that provides competencies for life and work. Aligned to international agendas and national sector plans, SDC uses a range of policy and operational tools to enhance inclusion, quality, and institutional capacity, and to strengthen the link between education systems and the labour market. This includes measures to improve education system governance including innovative financing, learning outcomes for those at school or in training and targeted education-approaches for children and youth out of school or lacking necessary skills to enter the labour market.

Inclusive, green education systems and quality education for all
Effective governance, adequate financial resources, and strong institutional capacity are key to inclusive and equitable education systems that deliver quality learning experiences for all. In many countries, learning outcomes are poor, with the curriculum often lacking relevance and instruction quality being subpar. Consequently, learners fail to achieve the necessary learning outcomes, repeating grades, dropping out, or lacking the qualifications to complete basic education.
SDC seeks to transform education by contributing to efficient, effective, inclusive and equitable education systems and by enabling relevant quality learning that provides competencies for life and work. Aligned to international agendas and national sector plans, SDC uses a range of policy and operational tools to strengthening education governance including innovative financing and institutional capacities at national and decentralised levels and to improve teacher training, good teaching materials, and curricula that are relevant and appropriate to local contexts in order to improve the learning outcomes for those at school or in training and targeted education-approaches for children and youth out of school or lacking necessary skills to enter the labour market.
Education sector governance and institutional capacities at national and decentralized levels
To improve education systems and ensure quality education for all children and young people, including those who have been excluded, SDC’s contributes to strengthening governance, increase financial resources, and build institutional capacity at both national and decentralised local levels. This requires harmonized efforts, a decentralized approach, and the active participation of various stakeholders, including civil society and the private sector.
Better teacher training, good teaching materials, and curricula that are relevant and appropriate to local contexts
To ensure quality and relevant basic education and learning outcomes for all children and young people, including those who have been excluded, SDC seeks to improve teacher training, support better teaching materials, and curricula that are relevant and appropriate to local contexts, particularly multilingual teaching models.
Inclusion and equity - Ensuring equal access to basic education
To prevent discrimination of vulnerable groups and to enhance inclusion and equity in education, SDC seeks to ensure access to good quality basic education for all, particularly disadvantaged and marginalised communities as well as displaced people. In contexts in which equitable opportunities in basic education cannot be immediately ensured, SDC focus on context-adjusted, flexible and alternative education pathways which offer bridges to the formal school system. It works to address the needs of children and young people who are unable to go to school by making the system more inclusive through alternative education programmes or bridging programmes to help them reintegrate into the regular schooling or vocational trainings.
